Hello Lincoln Families,

Just a couple reminders: Report cards went home on Wednesday this week. Please make sure you go over it with your child to not only celebrate their successes but set some goal(s). Also, if you could sign and return the yellow envelope that would be great! Monday there is NO school for students because of professional development for teachers. Next, Friday, March 19th is also a 1/2 day because teachers are getting the second vaccination. Have a terrific weekend!

Here's what is happening this week:

Reading: Over the next few weeks the reading focus will be incorporated into the social studies curriculum using books on historical events mentioned below. We will use these historical events and read alouds to teach different reading strategies to find text structures like compare & contrast, cause & effect in different texts.

Writing: This next week students are developing a free write like poetry, personal narratives, etc. The goal is to work through the writing process to publish his/her story.

Math: Students are learning Partial Quotients and multiplication strategies for long division. Over the next few weeks, we will also focus on finding quotients with remainders up to 4- 4-digit dividend, multi-step word problems to interpret remainders, multiplying a whole number by a fraction, and measuring acute, right, and obtuse angles. These concepts all require multiplication fluency and will be more challenging if your child struggles to know their facts. Please continue to encourage your child to practice multiplication/division facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice. Students can continue to practice IXL Diagnostic and now Khan Mappers for extra yards.

Science: Energizing Everything: This week the focus is on height energy and transferring energy.

Social Studies: We will continue Human Geography and the "Push-Pull" factors of immigration. Now that we are done with biographies, our focus will be on historical events like the Underground Railroad, Dust Bowl, and Orphan Trains. This is a long unit and may continue into trimester 3.

Positivity Project: This week's focus is the Love of Learning.

School Reminders:

Every Monday is Positivity Day: Students wear P2 T-Shirt
