Draper, Crystal- 4th / Welcome

Hello Lincoln Families,

NWEA testing in reading and math is finished. I am working on collecting more reading data using the Fountas and Pinnell reading assessment as well. The data will be used to put together reading groups. I'm hoping to start putting them together by the end of this week and begin as soon as possible. We will continue  activities on getting to know and welcome everyone as one class. We will also continue practicing classroom procedures in Daily 5 (language arts), and Math Daily 3 routines. This week we will also begin, Waves of Sound in Mystery Science. Our math jounals have finally arrived! In math, we will be focusing on adding and subtracting large numbers. I began last Friday by teaching some strategies on rounding large numbers.  I look forward to a wonderful week! Just in case you missed the blog from last week below are some important reminders. I have included some updates in some sections including Safety Patrol.  I have added a new post. Have a great week:)

Important Dates

Late Starts: 9/30, 10/7, 10/14, 10/21, 10/28

Technology Support Link: Tech Support

Towels: Just a reminder, students are allowed to bring a beach or a bath towel to sit around the classroom during lunch and to take outside with them if we go into the courtyard for some activities. If you could also make sure your child has a water bottle each day, that would be helpful. We can't use drinking fountains.

Field Trip Forms: Your child will receive a walking field trip for you to sign and return. Due to the current circumstances, we will not be taking any field trips this year. However, since we do have less time outside at recess this year, we may occasionally take walks around the neighborhood to get some fresh air that may be off of school property. Therefore, the permission slip is to leave school property for occasional walks as a class.

Safety Patrol: Thank you to the students who are able to participate in the program. Please try to turn in your permission slip on Monday. If your child would like to participate and hasn't received a permission slip please let me know. If you need more information, I have added it below.

Book Orders:  The class code is PB27H

Safety Patrol Information:

Hello Parents & Students,

The 4th and 5th graders watched a video about our Safety Patrol program last week.

Due to the pandemic protocol and procedures, meeting with students outside of our cohorts

isn’t possible. So I’m relying on videos and emails for communication, which is making it a

little trickier to recruit students. Lincoln School is in desperate need of Safety Patrollers.

The program instills students with a sense of responsibility and leadership as they protect

classmates going to and from school each day. Please consider allowing your child to participate

in this program. The information below is an overview of what is expected. Your teacher

has permission slips that will need to be signed and turned into Mrs. Abbott before you can

begin, along with a tour of the Posts if you are a 4th grader. Thank you for your consideration.

There are now four posts.

Post 1: Bus post-Only bus riders work this post.

They will make sure students are safe. The duty ends

when the student has to get on the bus.

Post 2: Is on Morton across from the church

Post 3: Is on Morton and Langley (down the sidewalk from Post 2).

Both posts 2 & 3 are accessed by the lane adjacent to the playground.

Kinder Post: This is only at 3:40 not at the beginning of the day. Patrollers

will assist Kindergarteners to find their bus.

If you are interested in allowing your child to participate, he/she would have to be

at the post by 8:30am and walk-in when the bell rings. In the afternoon, Patrollers

start getting ready by 3:40pm and are expected to stay until 4:05. Bus riders leave

when they get on the bus. Also, rain or shine patrollers need to be on post. If it rains I

have rain jackets from my back room. The only time you do not go to your post is when

the temperature is in the one digits.
