Hello Lincoln Families,
Our class was able to do March Madness reading activities put together by Mrs. Bacolor on Friday at our class Read-In along with reading their own personal collection of favorite books. It was a wonderful morning! Report cards will go home this week. Remember the goal is to have all standards on the report card in the 3 range by the end of 4th grade. So, if your child falls below that range, we will continue to work on those area(s). Also, the multistep word problem standard on the report card for this trimester only includes: adding, subtracting, multiplication, and NOT division. Division for multistep word problems will be reported in the last trimester.
I need to address a situation that happened this week during our Media Center time. Often during some Specials, the video lessons may include students using Chromebooks. During the Media Center lesson students were supposed to be on school websites to do some activities. However, several students were emailing each other during this time. I did have Go Guardian on (which monitors tech activity). Go Guardian allows teachers to see exactly what websites students are on and for how long etc. All 4th graders know from the Bootcamp training the protocols and procedures. We had a class conversation about emailing other students on a school device. I clarified it is NEVER allowed during and outside of school. Mrs. Dirlam makes this clear in the video training. They know this. We had a great conversation about integrity, honesty, and "knowing what is right and doing what is right, especially when no one is watching"-even though Go Guardian was watching:) It's about safety. We have virtual students coming back and it will be a good time to revisit Chromebook protocols. I would encourage you to have the conversation at home as well. Thank you.
Here's what is happening this week:
Reading: Over the next few weeks the reading focus will be incorporated into the social studies curriculum using books on historical events mentioned below. We will use these historical events and read alouds to teach different reading strategies to find text structures like compare & contrast, cause & effect in different texts.
Writing: We wrapped up Biography slides last week. Make sure your child presents them to you! This next week students will be able to some free writes like poetry, personal narratives, etc.
Math: This week's lesson will be focused on reteaching concepts not mastered from Unit 5. We will also have lessons to include line plots and graphing. Please continue to encourage your child to practice multiplication/division facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice. Students can continue to practice IXL Diagnostic and now Khan Mappers for extra yards.
Science: Energizing Everything : This week the focus is on height energy and transferring energy.
Social Studies: We will continue Human Geography and the "Push-Pull" factors of immigration. Now that we are done with biographies, our focus will be on historical events like the Underground Railroad, Dust Bowl, and Orphan Trains. This is a long unit and may continue into trimester 3.
Positivity Project: This week's focus is on Social Intelligence.
School Reminders:
Every Monday is Positivity Day: Students wear P2 T-Shirt
