Hello Lincoln Families,

I hope everyone is well! I was one of the 900 school staff yesterday to get vaccinated at the BCHD. I was impressed by how smoothly and organized the process went as well as how friendly everyone was.  I will admit, I was a little nervous, but it couldn't have been a better experience considering the circumstances.

We only have two weeks left before our second-trimester ends. I have been and will continue giving different assessments to gather data to report on report cards especially in areas where students may have an area(s) of difficulty. Remember the goal is to have all standards on the report card in the 3 range by the end of 4th grade. So, if your child falls below that range, we will continue to work on those area(s).

Here's what is happening this week:

Reading: We are wrapping up with practice using the reading strategy to summarize a text called, Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then, or SWBST when reading fiction. However, it is the intention students will be able to independently use this strategy when needed.

Writing: Students have begun brainstorming and writing a biography on a historical person who influenced black history. This writing piece integrates writing, research, and social studies migration Common Core Standards. The students are excited and very engaged during writing time! Even though we have just begun, ask your child to see their research Google slides.

Math: We will continue Unit 5 on fractions and geometry on different types of angles. They are learning strategies for adding fractions. Please encourage your child to practice multiplication/division facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice. Students can continue to practice IXL Diagnostic and now Khan Mappers for extra yards.

Science: We will be working on Energizing Everything. This is quite a long unit and will go into trimester 3. Keeping in mind I rotate Science every other week.

Social Studies: We will continue Human Geography and the "Push-Pull" factors of immigration. This is a long unit and may continue into trimester 3.

Positivity Project: This week's focus is on Other People Mindset: Cheering Other People's Success
