Hello Families,

We had a fantastic first week back! I'm so grateful to be working with such an amazing group of students. Every student brought their charged Chomebooks every day last week. Thank you for all you do as parents to help support your child to be successful in the classroom. Conferences for the spring will begin at the end of January. Conferences will be done in a Google Meet format. This time for conferences teachers do not meet with every student. I will send a Sign-up Genius schedule to you via email if I need to meet with you regarding your child's progress. However, if you would like a conference let me know via email and we can arrange a Google Meet.

This next week starting Tues., Jan. 12th-15th we will begin NWEA reading and math testing. Please try not to schedule any appointments on these days. Thank you for your understanding. Have a great week!

 Important Dates

Reminder: Every Monday is Positivity Day. Students are encouraged to wear their Positivity T-Shirts!

Late Starts: 1/6, 1/13, 1/20
NWEA Reading & Math Testing: 1/12-1/14
No School District PD: 1/18
Half Days: 1/28, 1/29

Here's what is going on in the classroom:

Reading: This week we will have the interruption with NWEA, but we will begin cause & effect reading questioning strategy.

Writing: We will continue persuasive writing, but the topic will shift to include our social studies regions unit. This writing will continue over a few weeks. Students will choose a region of the U.S and research the physical and human features of the area. Including the research, students will then write to persuade why a person should live in the region.

Math: Everyone took the Unit 3 test on decimals and equivalent fractions. Those tests will come home soon. Again we will have the NWEA math interruption but will begin multiplication extending facts, partial products, and geometry to include partitioning rectangles. I continue to encourage 4th graders to practice multiplication facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice. Students can continue to practice IXL Diagnostic and now Khan Mappers.

Science: This week we will begin the new unit on the Human Machine.

Social Studies: We are finished up with Core Democratic Values and then focusing on Physical & Human features and how they are connected in the United States. This week we will focus on Science.

Positivity Project: This week's focus is on Prudence.
