Reminder: Please remind your child to charge and pack his/her Chromebook.
Here's what is going on in the classroom:
Reading: Because of NWEA, we will continue working this week in reading groups and practicing the cause & effect reading questioning strategy in an interactive read-aloud mini-lesson. The story of Ruby Bridges is about a young, first-grade girl from the 1960s who recently moved from Mississippi to New Orleans in search of a better life. A judge orders her to attend an all-white school. She faces an angry mob and stands alone to face racism. The beautiful story lends itself to many lessons on theme and cause & effect. It's also the perfect story to launch Black History Month.
Writing: The students will continue researching the physical and human features of the region they would like to live in the U.S. Students have chosen their region and started the rough draft for the persuasive essay.
Math: We will continue multiplication extending facts, partial products, and geometry to include partitioning rectangles. Please encourage your child to practice multiplication/division facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice. Students can continue to practice IXL Diagnostic and now Khan Mappers for extra yards.
Science: This week students will review and take the Human Machine Unit test.
Social Studies: We are focusing on the spatial, physical & human features and how they are connected in the United States and integrating this study with our persuasive writing.
Positivity Project: This week's focus is on Other People's Mindset/Supporting Others.
