Hello Families,

     We had a terrific week! On Friday our class had a "Class Clip" celebration with ice cream sundaes and a movie! We are wrapping up some units. In math, most students are finished with the Unit 4 test on area & perimeter, multi-digit multiplication, and multi-step word problems. This summative test is the first real glimpse into 4th-grade math. Students are learning strategies and realizing it may take 5 to 10 minutes to solve one problem. I'm proud of how hard they are working through the process and steps to more challenging problems. The test will come home once we are done going over them. If your child scores below a three on any standard, they can practice the skill in IXL. If a parent/guardian signs the planner, I will give extra yards! Our class is also finishing up with the region persuasive essays. Our authors will celebrate them on our "Writer's Wall" in the hallway and then they will come home. Our class also finished the Human Body Science Unit. We will begin Energizing Everything the second week of February. Have a great week!

Here's what is going on in the classroom:


Reading: About mid-week, we will begin a summary writing reading strategy called, Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then, or SWBST.

Writing: We are finishing the essays this week as well as the region research Google slides on the physical and human features. Students will have the opportunity to do some free writes on poetry etc. for a little break to be creative and have a choice.

Math: We will begin Unit 5 about mid-week. The focus will be on fractions. Please encourage your child to practice multiplication/division facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice. Students can continue to practice IXL Diagnostic and now Khan Mappers for extra yards.

Science: In the second week of February we will begin the unit, Energizing Everything.

Social Studies: About mid-week, we will begin, Human Geography and the "Push-Pull" factors of immigration.

Positivity Project: This week's focus is on Integrity.

       Here's what is happening this next week: Just an FYI:  The testing window of NWEA and M-Step has slowed some lessons down over the last couple of weeks. Testing does interrupt our schedule.   Hello Lincoln Families, Testing for NWEA will begin Monday, April 26th in the morning. We will be testing students in reading and math.  It may take a few days to finish as a class. This week we will discuss fall and winter data and grade-level goals. Once students are finished with the NWEA, we will gather the data and adjust individual learning goals and use them along with essential standard data/goals to finish out the 4th-grade year. This is a very crucial time of year. This last trimester is going fast! There is much work that needs to be done in order to finalize 4th-grade goals to get students prepared for 5th grade. Please try your best to have your child in school. If you can schedule doctor appointments after 3:15, it would be most beneficial to your child. I don't want anyone to lose valuable lesson time.   Hello Families,      I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break! I know I really enjoyed the last two weeks getting caught up on some projects and some reading. It's hard to believe that school begins tomorrow. It always goes by so fast, but I'm looking forward to seeing our class and getting the new year started! I have a couple of important reminders. First, please remember to have your child charge the Chromebook and have it packed in the case, and then put it into the backpack for Monday morning. Also, now that we have all of this snow and colder weather, please make sure your child has a winter coat, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves.
