Hello, I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday break! I certainly enjoyed my family time and getting caught up around the house. This week is the start of Trimester 2. We will be starting some new concepts in math, writing, and social studies. Below are some updates. We only have three weeks until our next holiday break. It will go fast! Have a great week. Stay healthy and Safe! Here's what is going on in the classroom: Reading: We will continue working on strategies for making an inference in the text using Jan Richardson's red questioning strategies. Writing: We will do some lessons/practice/games on the 8 parts of speech and figurative language. Then we will begin reviewing the five-paragraph writing process in opinion/persuasive writing. This is a long process that will continue through January. Math: This week we will begin our study with equivalent fractions. I posted some helpful videos in Google Classroom. Hello, This week report cards will go home. Just a reminder any standards with a score of less than a 3 will be developed and practiced throughout the year. Mastery isn’t expected until the end of the year. There are some challenging standards in math and writing that need more time for mastery. Also, the Math standard “Solve multi-step word problems using all operations (+,-,x,÷)” for Trimester 1 multi-step word problem standard reflects only addition and subtraction. Future scores for this standard may change based on the operations used. Science, will not be reported on the report card as we begin to align with the Next Generation Science Standards. Our goal is to excite students about science with engaging, hands-on learning. The new Chromebooks went home with the case and charging cord last Thursday. Charging cords will need to stay home and Chromebooks charged up and ready to use for each school day. The Chromebooks need to come to school daily in t...

Hello Families, We are wrapping up the Trimester this week. Report cards will go home next week. It was exciting getting the Chromebooks last week and it will be much easier to push out assignments through Google Classroom now. Last week we worked diligently on more technology training with the new Chromebooks. We reviewed how to take care of the devices, Digital Citizenship, how to comprise an email, and Google Classroom. If you have time and have any questions please review the SJPS Digital Passport (click link). This is also in Google Classroom in the topic Technology Support for students as well. We also signed up for Khan Mappers which allows math practice on 4th grade standards based off of their NWEA math score. I also went over some more programs we will use on a regular basis for face-to-face or remote learning. As you may know, I sent home with students on Thursday all school books and supplies if they need them in case we go remote...

Hello 4th Grade Families, We had a fantastic week and our class clips made it to the floor! Each student was able to choose how they wanted to celebrate our classes' positive behavior by filling out a Google form and over 80% wanted a movie and snacks. So this Friday we will watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (old version) and have snacks. We chose this movie because I read the amazing story by Roald Dahl. Please send in any snacks and clear drink. Thank you:) Just a reminder Thursday and Friday are half days for people who still need conferences. Here's what is going on in the classroom: Reading: We will continue to use the V. I. P reading strategy when reading non-fiction. Students use text features, and keywords to find the main idea of these types of texts. We are also using the "Turning the Heading into a Question" strategy to help find the main idea. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". It's possible to ...

Dear Lincoln Families, We had a great party on Friday! Thank you for the many contributions to our party that helped make it a huge success! It was simple but awesome:) We had all kinds of snacks and juice. We played a Halloween bingo game that came with prizes. We also watched the classic Charlie Brown's Great Pumpkin. Some students commented that it was the best Halloween school party they ever had:) Thank you so much! Here's what is going on in the classroom: Reading: We will continue to use the V. I. P reading strategy when reading non-fiction. Students use text features, and keywords to find the main idea of these types of texts. We are also using "Turning the Heading into a Question" strategy to help find the main idea. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". It's possible to use more than one at a time. Writing: We are continuing to work on sentence structure and lessons on how to write personal narratives. The...
