Draper, Crystal- 4th / Welcome

Hello Lincoln Families,

I hope you had a great weekend! Our class is doing well and settling into our class routines. It was a fantastic week! I'm enjoying getting to know this year's amazing 4th graders! Parent/Teacher conferences are approaching quickly. Our conferences will be on  Oct. 15th &16th. This year Parent/Teacher conferences will not be face-to-face but through a Google Meet similar to the Emergency Learning last spring.  They will be in a "Student-Led" format. You will sign-up for your child's conference on Sign-up-Genius (click on the link). Each conference will be 20 minutes. In the first ten minutes, I will talk about your child's current data and goals. The remainder of the time your child will present some data he/she had collected and personal goals. Try to choose a time that can work for both you and your child. I encourage each student to be part of the conference. However, I understand if that cannot work because of scheduling and prior commitments. If there is a conflict please choose a time that can still work for you and me to meet on Sign-up-Genius, and your child can conference at your convenience.  Each conference will be accessed through your child's Google Meet Link (click on this link) in Google Classroom. If possible have your child log into their Google account and go to Classroom. Otherwise, you can just you this Google Meet link. If you have any questions please email me. I will give more specific details and reminders in next week's blog post. Have a wonderful week!

Here's what is going on in the classroom:

Reading: We began guided reading groups. The reading strategy focus this week is Character Analysis and Fix-up Strategies.

Writing: We are working on sentence structure and starting lessons on how to write personal narratives.

Math:  Math Daily 3 routines. In math, we are focusing on place value & rounding to the hundred thousands, adding & subtracting large numbers. I also gave a two -minute 0-9 multiplication fact check. I encourage 4th graders to practice multiplication facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice.

Science: We began our Sound Waves Science Unit.

Social Studies: We began the Unit on Foundational Social Studies on "Thinking Like a Historian".  We will be showing videos and talking about the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, in social studies. All materials are appropriate for kids and will be referred back to throughout the year. Just wanted to give you a heads up so you can continue the discussion at home!

Towels: Just a reminder, students are allowed to bring a beach or a bath towel to sit around the classroom during lunch and to take outside with them if we go into the courtyard for some activities. If you could also make sure your child has a water bottle each day, that would be helpful. We can't use drinking fountains.

Field Trip Forms: Thank you to everyone for turning them in! (I will leave this information for new students:)
Your child will receive a walking field trip for you to sign and return. Due to the current circumstances, we will not be taking any field trips this year. However, since we do have less time outside at recess this year, we may occasionally take walks around the neighborhood to get some fresh air that may be off of school property. Therefore, the permission slip is to leave school property for occasional walks as a class.

Book Orders:  The class code is PB27H
