Dear Lincoln Families,
Just a reminder Parent/Teacher conferences are this week. Our conferences will be this Thurs. & Friday, on Oct. 15th &16th. Please sign up if you haven't already on Sign-up-Genius (click on the link). Each conference will be 20 minutes. In the first ten minutes, I will talk about your child's current data and goals. For the remainder of the time, your child will present some data he/she had collected and personal goals. Try to choose a time that can work for both you and your child. I encourage each student to be part of the conference. However, I understand if that cannot work because of scheduling and prior commitments. If there is a conflict please choose a time that can still work for you and me to meet on Sign-up-Genius, and your child can conference at your convenience. Each conference will be accessed through your child's Google Meet Link (click on this link) in Google Classroom. If possible have your child log into their Google account and go to Classroom. Otherwise, you can just you this Google Meet link. If you have any questions please email me. I have allotted 5 minutes in between each conference for transition time. Please try to stay on time and click on the Google Meet link in the Classroom when your conference begins. I look forward to meeting with you and our amazing 4th graders!
Touchdowns: Many students have been scoring touchdowns in our classroom! This is a celebration of positive behavior in our classroom. When they score a touchdown they can choose:
- Chew gum (bring in leave on my desk and only chew in the classroom)
- Share something from home, story etc.
- Bring in a pet (Email me first to set up a time and to clarify instructions. It can only happen outside on the playground on Mondays from 9:50-10:10 & Wednesdays from 1:20-1:40)
- Bring in electronics (parent need to send in a permission slip)
- They are more but these are the most popular:)
- If you have any questions please email me:)
Our class party will be in the afternoon, on Friday, October 30th. This year we can't have homemade treats, but only packaged items. If you are interested in sending in some treats on that day let me know. I will send out some more details in next week's blog. Thanks!
All kids are welcome to wear costumes all day. Parents should use good judgment on costumes, maybe leaving the bulkier pieces of costumes at home. A reminder that masks for health safety will still need to be worn and no weapons or look-alike weapons should come to school.
Here's what is going on in the classroom:
Reading: The reading strategy focus this week is Stop, Think, Paraphrase (STP). After each page, students cover the text and STP to themselves. We will work on this strategy verbally and then eventually writing the response. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". It's possible to use more than one at a time.
Writing: We are continuing to work on sentence structure and lessons on how to write personal narratives.
Math: In math, we are focusing on place value & rounding to the hundred thousand, adding & subtracting large numbers. I encourage 4th graders to practice multiplication facts at home with flashcards, IXL, etc. for extra practice.
Science: This last week we did experiments in the Sound Waves Science Unit. This unit helps students develop the idea that sound is an actual thing, a wave of vibrations traveling through the air. Equipped with this understanding, students can begin to make sense of how sound and music work.
Social Studies: This week we put our Historian hats on to think like a historian. We showed videos and talking about the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, in social studies. Thank you for the discussions you had with your children. This topic is really engaging and provoked some amazing conversations!
