Fourth Grade / Welcome

Hello Parents & Guardians,

Our class had a wonderful first week! The district's "Phase-In" plan allowed us to take our time with the safety protocols and procedures. It allowed me to have more meaningful conversations with each student. This next week we will continue to practice safety protocols and procedures as well as classroom routines and procedures. Below I have more information about things you and your child should know. Please make sure you scroll all the way through the blog and click on the hyperlinks. If I forgot something or you need more clarity, feel free to email me at any time. Thank you for your understanding:)

Google Classroom was a big focus this week. This is the learning management system our district will be using. Mrs. Goniwiecha created a screencast on how to log into your child's Google account. I reviewed this with the students last week. Once students are logged into their accounts they are supposed to go to Google Classroom. Once in Classroom, they need to go to the blog section and read it with you. I will update it weekly. I assigned this as "homework" for some practice. Next Friday, we will have a Google Meet classroom meeting from 11-11:23. The link to access this is on my homepage of GC. This will be a live link a couple of minutes before the meeting. I did add the link below in next week's schedule. Once all of our students receive Chromebooks, connecting to the Google Meet link should be a seamless process. In the meantime, if you could practice with your child getting into your child's Google Account and getting into Mrs. Abbott's Dream Team Google Classroom before this Friday that might be helpful. Let me know if your child will not have access to a computer.

Reminders: Door 14 is left of the front office door. It is the only door we are allowed to use to enter and exit for everything all day. 4th graders are not allowed to use any other door. They will be redirected if they go to another door. Thank you.

  • Fourth graders will enter and exit the building at the north end of the building, Door 14.  For safety reasons, this is the only door our 4th graders will be using to enter and exit the building throughout the year. For pick-up and drop-off, please plan to meet your child at Door 14.

Reminders: If you forgot to bring in some of these items the first week you can still send in. Please try to send in a snack and water bottle every day. Water bottles are especially important because we can only use the water bottle fillers and not the drinking fountains.

  • Please send a nutritious snack and a water bottle to school with your child each day. Water bottles can be refilled at the water filling stations in our hallway.

  • We would like to ask students to bring a beach towel to school. We would like to take students outside for the opportunity to have some “mask free” learning time. We will distance students appropriately from one another.

  • Please plan to bring in a small item to share (favorite toy, souvenir, award, photo, etc.) if you haven't already. Also, please send in some of your favorite photos (old & new) to use to decorate your writer’s notebook.

Safety Information

  • All students are required to wear a face mask in the building.

  • Students will hand sanitizing anytime they enter and exit the classroom.

  • We will be teaching students the proper way to handwash.

  • We have been directed that our district is following the CDC guidelines. It has been explained to us that students must always be following 2 out of 3 expectations.

    • Wearing a mask

    • Being socially distanced (Six feet apart)

    • Being in their 4th-grade cohort

Examples:

  1. IF we are outside and are six feet apart and with our 4th-grade cohort, then we could take our masks off because we have ⅔ of the CDC expectations met.

  2. IF we are in our classroom and are six feet apart, then we could take our masks off because we are with our cohort and socially distanced.

  • For recess, we will be discussing with students when they could take their masks on and off. Basically, if they are within six feet of another student they have to have it on.
